3 ANGELS SCHOOL, POKHARA, NEPAL

This 800-student school at the foot of the Annapurna’s has been designed using passive solar techniques that capitalise on everything that nature provides the school for free so that a comfortable learning environment is enjoyed by students & teachers alike with low-energy, low-maintenance & natural systems. Deciduous vegetated screens control heat & light into classrooms & create classroom courtyards for outdoor learning. The layout of the school & design of the classrooms ensures that natural cross-ventilation is achieved by scooping prevailing breezes through the classrooms. Thermal buoyancy ensures the classrooms purge heat at night during the monsoon. Thermal mass is carefully controlled to be precluded from monsoon sun & exposed to winter sun-penetration into the south-facing classrooms. Large skillion-covered roof-tops protect the building below & create usable play-spaces during the monsoon rains.

Client Testimonial:

Steve and I have been delighted with True North’s architectural designs and service for our projects through the years. Their designs are innovative and exactly what we have wanted on every occasion. Nothing has been too big or too small, and the same attention to detail and excellence was applied to all. We would absolutely recommend Angus & True North Architects to anyone looking for, not only a delightful person to deal with, but excellence in outcome. We would indeed use True North again should we ever do another project and can highly recommend them to others.
