The design of this beach house in Fingal Bay on the NSW mid-north coast has been inspired by the Gymea Lilies that proliferate across the hill behind the site. Like the lilies, the house reaches up & outward to the light, & in this case, to the panoramic views of Fingal Bay. The house is rotated on the site to take advantage of northern sun & to frame views to the south & east. The stepped plan uses large cantilevers to maximise the footprint on the upper levels which the living spaces inhabit. A discreet terrace nestles into the low-pitched roof where the beauty of Fingal Bay & a Gin & Tonic is best enjoyed.
