POINT FREDERICK RESIDENCE

This second-storey addition centres around an internal stair & light-well that brings lights & ventilation deep into the home’s interior & transforms the modest brick dwelling. The light-well has a dramatic expression on the roofline, affectionately referred to as the 'bunny ears', which are designed to allow winter sun in & keep summer sun out, while also acting like a thermal chimney for the home. The Design Brief expressly wanted to avoid a delineation between new & old, so folding roof planes have been employed to drape down the elevations & blur the line between the two levels of the home.
